Aeroklubben is the flying club behind Gothenburg's flight school, and has been operating since 1931, with more than a thousand students having earned their pilot certificates there. Flying training is based at Backamo airfield, while the theory side of the course is taught separately at Säve Airport. The school is approved by the Swedish Transport Agency as a declared training organisation (SE.DTO.0020) and teaches the Private Pilot Licence, which requires a minimum of 45 flight hours, along with night qualification, single-engine piston class ratings and trial lessons. Students can also train on type-specific differences, including the Pipistrel Virus, the electric Pipistrel Velis Electro and the Bristell B23, as well as variable-pitch and EFIS training. Applicants must be 17 or over, and wearing glasses is not a barrier.
