Airbus Motorfluggruppe e.V. is a members' flying club and Approved Training Organisation based at Hamburg-Finkenwerder, with practical training also flown from Uetersen-Heist and other airfields across northern Germany. Founded in 1965 as the Hamburger Flugzeugbau (HFB) Motorfluggruppe by twenty members with two aircraft, it now has around 290 members and describes itself as one of Germany's largest powered-flying clubs. Training centres on the EASA Part-FCL PPL(A), run in yearly intakes starting each January; prospective students attend an autumn information evening before applying for a place. Instructors fly for the club voluntarily, and the club is candid that it offers teamwork rather than an all-inclusive commercial package. The seven-aircraft fleet comprises a Piper PA-28 Arrow III and two PA-28 Archer IIs (two of them IFR-equipped), three Cessna 172s including a diesel-engined C172P and a G1000-equipped 172S, and an Aquila A211. Members fly long-distance group tours each year, having reached Ukraine, Greece, Morocco and the North Cape.
