About Scottish Aero Club

The Scottish Aero Club is Scotland's oldest and largest flying club, based at Perth Airport (Scone), roughly midway between Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It traces its roots to the Scottish Flying Club, founded at Renfrew in 1927, and the Strathtay Aero Club, founded at Perth in 1936; the two merged in 1956 to form the present club. Perth has three runways — two tarmac and one grass — so wind direction rarely stops flying, plus an operational tower, modern clubrooms, an on-site lodge and a cafe. Flying training today is in microlights. The club owns a Skyranger Nynja and a Eurostar EV97, both two-seat three-axis machines, along with a P&M GT450 / Quik flex-wing, and tuition in them is delivered by its resident training provider, Alba Airsports, which also handles conversions and check flights. Qualified members can self-hire the club aircraft; G-FSKY, the Nynja, has a modern digital cockpit and low-hours airframe and engine. It is a private members' club rather than a walk-in school — membership is open to anyone with an interest in aviation, hangarage is available for small aircraft, and visitors can arrange a guided hangar tour by prior arrangement. The club's chosen charity is Take-Off.
